Chelsea became the first holders of the Champions League to crash out before Christmas and their participation in the Europa League has been derided by Andre Villas-Boas, who reckons clubs should not be rewarded for failure. AVB's Tottenham secured their passage into the last 32 of the competition, while Celtic qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League.
