Man United's lethargic display against Tottenham last weekend left many supporters wondering if Ryan Giggs has finally reached the end of his illustrious career in a Red Devils shirt. Replacing someone of his quality and consistency is no easy task, but after a stunning display in the Champions League for Malaga against Anderlecht, could Portuguese left winger Eliseu be the man for the job? talkSPORT have more on the versatile player with a rocket in his boot...

So who is he?
Once rich Spanish side Malaga signed Eliseu for a little over £1.5m from Lazio in 2010 and he has really excelled in his second spell at the club amongst the new found talent at La Rosaleda. Capable of playing at either left back or left wing, the Portuguese is best served closer to goal where he can use his thunderous left foot to full effect and his love of tackling is crucial to winning possession further up the pitch. He hasn't received a call-up to the Portugal squad since 2011, but if he continues in his current form for Malaga, it will be hard for coach Paulo Bento to resist much longer.

Why Man United?
When Malaga's financial crisis unfolded in the summer, it appeared that any club with a decent offer could have their pick of the best players at the Andalucian side. Eliseu's name was hotly linked with a move to United and it's easy to understand why, as his versatility means he can play both on the left wing in place of Giggs, or drop back to cover for the increasingly erratic Patrice Evra if need be. The Portuguese is proving his credentials at the highest level with Malaga in the Champions League, and his physicality means he is well suited to the Premier League. Benfica pushed hard to sign him from Malaga in the summer, but coach Manuel Pellegrini personally blocked the transfer, considering him too important to the team, a move that speaks volumes about the player given that the Spaniards let Santi Cazorla leave in the same window. Could Eliseu be more tempted to try and force an exit if Man United came calling, however?
