While the trio have looked promising, Arsenal still lack a lethal cutting edge, but according to latest reports, both Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Demba Ba are strongly linked with a move to the Emirates. talkSPORT put the strikers head-to-head...
What's the latest?
With Klaas-Jan Huntelaar set to leave Schalke come the end of the season, when his contract runs out, the Dutchman has naturally found himself linked with every major club in Europe. Reports claim that Schalke are keen on cashing in on the hitman in January, with suggestions that the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool could snap him up for as little as £6m. Arsenal's striking struggles are well documented and Huntelaar has been mentioned as a possible remedy, although Schalke bosses have poured scorn on the Gunners' ability to land him.
The clause in Demba Ba's contract that allows him to leave Newcastle for a cut-price fee is rearing its head again, as the January transfer window nears. Toon boss Alan Pardew has said that the club are putting together a new deal for their Senegalese star and Ba insists that he is committed to the club, but there remains a feeling that his head could still be turned, particularly with Newcastle well short of the top four. Should Arsenal manage to tempt him with a move to London, it is believed that they could land him for £7.5m, which is well within the Gunners' price range.
How they match up
Over the past two seasons, Huntelaar has proved that he should be considered one of Europe's best strikers after rebuilding his reputation following difficult periods at Real Madrid and AC Milan. From early as his days at Apeldoorn through Heerenveen to Ajax, Huntelaar has been a prolific goal scorer and has taken that to the next level at Schalke. His 48 goals in all competitions last season cannot be ignored and his four goals in five Champions League games so far this campaign is an impressive return.
Demba Ba was one of the revelations of the Premier League last season, as he bagged 16 goals in 34 games. Despite having had brief experience with West Ham six months before, Ba spearheaded Newcastle's attack as Alan Pardew's side threatened to break into the top four. Ba's form was slightly hit following the arrival of Papiss Cisse, but the 27-year-old has found his shooting boots once again and is joint top scorer in the Premier League with 10 league goals already this season.
What's being said
“If someone comes to us six months before the expiry date, and has a lot of money, we will deal with it. From Arsenal circles we hear there is no money anyway. It's pure speculation. Either Arsenal make us an offer, otherwise it's a load of nonsense.” - Schalke 04 General Manager Horst Heldt
“The truth of it is that Demba has got a clause in his contract and it is still hanging over us. We have tried to negotiate away and we have not managed to do that as yet.” - Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew
