Chelsea's capture of Demba Ba may only be the tip of the iceberg for the Blues, with the London side likely to spend more in the winter transfer window. So who will be the next man to walk through the doors of Stamford Bridge as a new Chelsea player? talkSPORT look at the options...
Club: Metalist Kharkiv
Yet another Brazilian making his name in Ukraine, Metalist winger Taison has all the skill you would expect of a player from the home of samba football, and is an excellent finisher too, as proven by his spectacular Marco van Basten-style volley against Rosenborg, which you can watch in the highlights video below. The youngster recently admitted that he went to visit Stamford Bridge and spoke with Roman Abramovich in December, so a transfer looks highly likely, though whether he'll arrive now or in the summer remains to be seen.
Name: Fabio Coentrao
Position: Left back
Club: Real Madrid
Chelsea had previously shown a strong interest in Fabio Coentrao before his move to Real Madrid, and though it looked like the door was closed after the Spanish side sealed the deal, a recent dispute with Jose Mourinho could have changed the situation. Coentrao was reportedly disciplined after turning up an hour late for training last week, the latest in several incidents of indiscipline which the Spanish press claim has caused Jose Mourinho to lose faith in the Portuguese defender. Chelsea are now once again linked with his services, but an injury crisis in Madrid's defence means they'd be foolish to sell their only fit left back. Moreover, with Madrid still in the Champions League, it's hard to imagine Coentrao leaving in January and settling for the Europa League at best until next season.
Name: Marek Hamsik
Position: Attacking midfielder
Edinson Cavani may steal most of the headlines, but attacking midfielder Marek Hamsik is equally essential to Napoli's success. Hamsik loves to receive the ball to feet and drive forward at opposition defenders, and excels at getting into the box as part of the second line of attack, with seven goals and five assists already this season for Napoli. Hamsik looks likely to move on in the near future, particularly since his infamous agent Mino Raiola began stirring things up by revealing Manchester City are interested in him. If City are true to their word and don't attempt to do any business in the winter window, however, then Chelsea could steal a march, though they may have Paris Saint Germain to compete with.
Position: Defensive midfielder
In the build-up to Chelsea's Club World Cup final loss to Corinthians, one of the Brazilian side's key players was hotly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. Defensive midfielder Paulinho, who has recently staked a major claim in his position for the Brazilian national team, has all the qualities Chelsea would expect from someone in his position. With a strong range of passing, plenty of energy, and the added bonus of being a decent finisher too, he would certainly add more cutting edge in the role by comparison with John Obi Mikel. Corinthians president Mario Gobbi Filho says that Chelsea have yet to submit an offer, however, and the Club World Cup winners have no intention of selling him, although money talks.
