For a great deal of the Arsene Wenger's 17 years in charge of Arsenal, his transfer policy has largely revolved around his strong connections with French football, as Gunners fans saw France-based players being snapped up for peanuts.

However, with the transfer window open again for business, the Arsenal boss has conceded that he can no longer rely on France for players. He recently commented that: “The emerging countries to produce players now look to be Germany and Spain, so we're trying to diversify more in terms of where we are looking.”

The Gunners have started that process in earnest, snapping up German internationals Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker, with youngsters Thomas Eisfeld and Serge Gnabry also being brought into the club's ranks.
