Arsene Wenger has said that Arsenal are willing to spend money in January if the 'right player' is available, and few would doubt that an additional striker is needed at the Emirates, but just who is the man for the job? talkSPORT compare Sevilla's Alvaro Negredo and Marseille's Loic Remy, who have both been linked with the Gunners...
What's the latest?
Sevilla President Alvaro Negredo was in London this week, and though the club claims it was for personal reasons, the Spanish media have suggested that he made his way to England in an effort to try and sell Alvaro Negredo. Along with Tottenham, Arsenal are one of the clubs linked with the forward. His price is reported to be around €18m.
Unsurprisingly, Harry Redknapp's hard sell failed to convince Loic Remy to join QPR this month, but the striker could have an even better offer in the coming days. A childhood Arsenal fan, Remy is likely to jump at the chance to join the Gunners should it arrive.
How they match up
Physically powerful, strong in the air and a good finisher, Alvaro Negredo also likes to get involved in link-up play with the midfield, making him a good all round striker. His goals have helped keep Sevilla afloat in recent seasons despite the talent drain at the Andalucian side, and he would likely do even better with Santi Cazorla, Lukas Podolski and Jack Wilshere alongside him.
Remy relies more on his skill to beat a man than Negredo, and is also quicker, though he isn't as strong in the air. The Frenchman has a decent shot from distance, but with only one goal in Ligue 1 this season, he falls way behind Negredo in the scoring charts, with the Spaniard on eight in La Liga.
What's being said?
“We won't sell Negredo unless there's a stellar offer. We already rejected a €16m offer for him.” Sevilla President Jose Maria del Nido
“This is the third transfer window in a row that we're talking about his departure, so he isn't focused on it. He just wants to regain his form. Physically, he has found it, but now he needs to rediscover the instinctive side of his game.” Marseille coach Elie Baup
