Former Newcastle defender Robbie Elliott claims the influx of Ligue 1 talent has been a huge boost for Alan Pardew's side - and is all in favour of 'French Day' at St James' Park.

The Magpies will use their Premier League fixture with Southampton on Sunday to praise their recent additions, along with the Gallic flair already at the club.

And Elliott, who played for the club between 1991-97, believes the north-east side are reaping the rewards of some excellent transfer window scouting.
