Gerry Armstrong on why Ronaldo won't rejoin Manchester United

Gerry Armstrong doesn’t expect Cristiano Ronaldo to rejoin Manchester United any time soon, despite recent stories in the media.

The Portuguese star is being linked with a return to Old Trafford, and reports have claimed he would be ready to take a pay cut to force the deal through.

But Spanish football expert Armstrong does not expect to see Ronaldo back in the Premier League next season.

The former Northern Ireland international said: “It’s not about the potential pay cut. Real Madrid paid £80million for him and he hasn’t gone down in value since then.

“I think the press have just latched onto this. I don’t think United would be looking to buy him because of the amount he would cost.”

And looking ahead to Tuesday's Champions League last 16 second leg between the two clubs, he added: “Manchester United will definitely concede a goal against Real, so they will have to score at least two goals.”
