Pete Lansley, The Times' midlands football correspondent, reflects on another miserable night for Aston Villa as Paul Lambert's side slipped to a 2-1 defeat at home to Newcastle.

Villa are sitting second from bottom in the Premier League, below Wigan on goal difference, and Lansley says, while their plan to bring in young, hungry players is commendable, it is not working and experience is badly needed if the club are to survive in the Premier League this season.

"At the moment, I can't see them getting out of it," Lansley said, speaking on Extra Time.
