Evening Standard journalist Simon Johnson was shocked to see Rafa Benitez on the touchline at Stamford Bridge after the interim manager’s rant earlier in the week.
He said: “I was surprised he took charge of the West Brom game. I thought what he said on Wednesday would’ve seen the back of him. But the club appear nervous of making another change because it could leave them with egg on their face.”
The journalist expected a more hostile reaction from the Chelsea fans, following Benitez’ comments after the FA Cup game against Middlesbrough.
Johnson added: “The fans are behind the team but making their thoughts about Rafa very clear. There were lots of banners and in the second half a loud chant of ‘Stand up if you hate Rafa’"
