Top football journalist Matt Scott describes Arsenal's failure to tie Theo Walcott down to a new contract as 'inexplicable', claiming the club can easily afford to match the winger's wage demands, whatever they are.

And Scott says Arsene Wenger is effectively a director of football at the Emirates, with no-one prepared to challenge his decisions.

"Whatever it is Theo Walcott wants, Arsenal can afford it. That is why it is so inexplicable," Scott told H & J.
