Michael Owen on his England career and the failure of the 'golden generation'

Michael Owen joined Keys & Gray on Wednesday morning to reflect on his England career.

The Stoke City striker, who won the last of his 89 caps in 2008, revealed his wonder strike against Argentina at the 1998 World Cup was the most special of his 40 goals for the Three Lions.

And Owen admitted the 'golden generation' he was considered a key part of should have been far more successful.

"We certainly had some top players. We could have done a lot more in the tournaments than we did, with the likes of Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard, Ferdinand and Rooney coming on to the scene later on, "Owen said, speaking at the launch of the Football Association's 150th anniversary year in London.
