Cross: Van Persie is the new Eric Cantona

Daily Mirror football reporter John Cross has paid Robin Van Persie the ultimate compliment - by claiming he could be the new Eric Cantona.

The Dutchman has been in stunning form for Manchester United since his £24million move from Arsenal in the summer, and Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has claimed that his side's failure to sign the striker could cost them the Premier League title.

And Cross agrees, stating that he believes Van Persie will be the difference between the two sides and his form will decide the destiny of the trophy.
