Steve Staunton on Villa's 'painful' defeat to Bradford

Former Villa Park favourite Steve Staunton admits his old side's Capital One Cup semi-final defeat to Bradford was 'painful'.

Paul Lambert's side won 2-1 in the second leg, but lost 4-3 on aggregate, and Staunton insists that was simply not good enough for a Premier League side against League Two opposition.

Villa will now need to pick themselves up as they bid to pull away from the lower reaches of the Premier League table, but Staunton fears it could be a long battle ahead and says the team is desperately in need of the leadership that is so obviously lacking.
