Former West Ham favourite Alvin Martin admits his old team was beaten by nothing less than a 'wonder strike' at Upton Park on Monday night.

The Hammers were undone in the final minute by a brilliant 30-yard drive from Tottenham star Gareth Bale, and Martin confesses that the Welshman's class was arguably the decisive factor in the match.

It was cruel for West Ham to lose a share of the points so late in the day, but Martin also admits survival was the only genuine aim for Sam Allardyce's side at the start of this season, and he feels the east Londoners are on course to achieve that goal.
