Oscar De La Hoya has told talkSPORT that Victor Ortiz could cause an upset on Saturday night and beat the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The pair will come together inside the ring in Las Vegas despite the Pretty Boy not fighting since he beat Shane Mosley in May 2010.

And the Golden Boy promotions president believes Ortiz could well shock his 34-year-old opponent.

He told Kick Off: “Are we going to see the old lion prevail once again or are we going to see the young lion come up and beat the king?

“This is going to be a wonderful fight, I think Victor Ortiz’ youth and him being a south paw, the fact he’s coming off the back of a great win against Andre Berto where he showed a lot of heart and desire and a will to win [gives him an advantage].

“Mayweather’s 16 months of inactivity, he’s 34-years-old, you take all things into consideration and we have a fight.

“It’s going to be a great fight, I think Floyd Mayweather jr has done wonderful things, he’s undefeated, there’s no denying that but sooner or later the changing of the guard always happens.

“Is it this Saturday night? Who knows, I kind of have that feeling in the air that something is going to happen on Saturday night and Mayweather is not going to like it.”

And De La Hoya admits that whether it’s Mayweather Jr or Ortiz that wins the fight in Las Vegas on Saturday, they’re likely to come up against British star Amir Khan in the near future.

“Amir Khan is a great champion doing wonderful things inside the ring and outside of the ring he’s a wonderful human being,” he added.

“He’s one of your guys from the UK that people are now noticing and respecting. He’s the next guy to come along and try and be great, he has those aspirations, he has the qualities, he has the talent and that’s what he wants.

“So whoever wins this Saturday night obviously at one point is going to have to face an Amir Khan, I’m sure it’s one fight he’s looking for.

"We’re all expecting a great fight on Saturday night and I think down the road we might see the winner this Saturday against Amir Khan.”
