Exclusive – Schaefer: Khan can be the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world

Golden Boy Promotions chief executive Richard Schaefer told talkSPORT he believes that Amir Khan will go on to be the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world.

According to Schaefer the Bolton-born star will be closely watching Saturday’s fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Victor Ortiz as he may well be facing the winner soon.

And he insists ‘King Khan’ can become one of the best of his generation as the old guard begin to hang up their gloves.

Schaefer said: “I think, as I’ve said so many times before and I think people have started believing me now finally, that Amir is going to become the pound-for-pound the best fighter in the world.

“In his time he is going to become that next man, that next fighter who is going to be carrying the sport and who is going to become the face of the sport and so we would definitely welcome, and I know Amir would, he made it clear to me, a potential fight against Mayweather sometime next year.”
