Exclusive - Froch wants to secure legacy against Kessler

Carl Froch has told talkSPORT of his delight after agreeing terms for a rematch to face Mikkel Kessler.

The bout is likely to take place in the United Kingdom in May.

Nottingham's three-time world super-middleweight champion Froch is seeking revenge after he lost on points to Kessler in 2010.

Froch said on Drive: “I was beaten fair and square on the night. Mentally I was not quite right but my mindset is going to be different this time.”

IBF super-middleweight champion Froch and admitted he would not be taking his Danish opponent lightly.

“This will be a tough fight and we’re both going to be at the top of our game,” added the 35-year-old.

The importance of the bout is not lost on the British boxer.

“This is a chance for me to redeem myself. My legacy is at stake here and by beating Kessler I would be securing my legacy,” stated Froch.

He is hoping a victory against Kessler would lead to having a rematch with WBA and WBC super-middleweight champion Andre Ward.

American Ward recorded a points win over the British boxer in 2011 and the Nottingham man is keen to erase the memory of only his second professional defeat.

“To set the record completely straight I would have a rematch with Ward. But I need to get the great Dane out of the way first as that is a tough enough task,” said Froch.
