Exclusive – Schaefer: Peterson v Khan rematch will be a candidate for fight of the year

CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, Richard Schaefer, has told talkSPORT that the Peterson v Khan rematch will be one of the biggest fights of the year.

The bout will take place in Las Vegas on May 19th after Peterson controversially beat the Bolton-born boxer on a points decision.

And after the contract for the rematch was signed Schaefer joined the Sports Bar to react to the news.

He said: “I’m happy for Amir and I’m happy for Lamont as well, that these two top notch athletes are going to meet again in the ring.

“It was a terrific fight first and foremost, I think you can put these guys in the ring ten times and you will have ten terrific fights.

“Many people feel actually that it is a fight of the year candidate.

“This is one fight you do not want to miss because you know this is not going to be a dance fest in the ring. This is going to be a toe-to-toe battle.

“Both fighters feel they have to prove something. Both feel they have to make a statement and this is just going to be one of the biggest fights I’ve promoted for a while.”
