England slump to second one-day defeat in India

England trail the one-day series with India 2-0 after crashing to another heavy defeat in Delhi.

With England having set a meagre total of 237, a century from Virat Kohli helped India ease to victory with 13.2 overs to spare.

The tourists must now win the third one-dayer in Mohali on Thursday to keep their hopes of a series victory alive.

England were looking for a much-improved performance after last week’s 126-run hammering in Hyderabad but made a disastrous start after winning the toss, losing captain Alastair Cook and fellow opener Craig Kieswetter without a run on the board.

Jonathan Trott blasted a quickfire 34 before he was caught and Ravi Bopara and Kevin Pietersen continued the fightback as England looked capable of posting a decent score.

However, Pietersen’s dismissal for 46, followed closely by Bopara on 36, left England on 121-5 and Cook's men were eventually all out for 237 with 10 balls of the innings still remaining.

Tim Bresnan removed both India's openers to leave them on 29-2 and give England hope but Kohli and Gautam Gambhir then put on a 209-run partnership as the home side cruised to victory with eight wickets to spare.
