Darren Gough has slammed Derek Pringle's newspaper attack on Kevin Pietersen, branding it 'disgusting'.

Former Essex and England bowler Pringle claimed Pietersen had a history of upsetting teams then moving on, is not a team man interested in the daily toll of his county colleagues and appeared to suggest he was more interested in money and successful people than cricket.

But talkSPORT presenter Gough was furious with the personal assault on the England ace.

He doesn’t bat for himself and he doesn’t need this kind of attack— Darren Gough

He said: "It was a selfish personal attack on someone he [Pringle] doesn’t know. It was totally out of order, and disgusting from an ex-England cricketer.

"I can understand how people think Pietersen's got that swagger about him – but that’s just natural, it’s way the way he is.

"He’s definitely a team player. He doesn’t bat for himself and he doesn’t need this kind of attack from an ex-England cricketer.

"A lot of it is down to jealousy, but we can all be jealous.

"I played 10 years ago, and I was successful in my career, but I didn’t earn anywhere near the money the guys today earn.

"But I’m not jealous. I just wish I was still playing today!"
