Eddie Jordan has told talkSPORT a world championship success for Fernando Alonso would be tainted by the team orders scandal.
Ferrari were fined €100,000 after instructing Felipe Massa to move aside for Alonso during the German Grand Prix, and Jordan insists they were lucky to escape without further censure.
And he admits that if Alonso were to go on to claim the drivers' championship it would leave a sour taste in the mouth of many motor racing fans.
Jordan told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast: "The fine for Ferrari was lenient. It was so blatant and obvious [what they did].
"My concern is what will happen in this country if either [Jenson] Button or [Lewis] Hamilton lost the title by a couple of points to Alonso. That was something the FIA didn’t take into consideration and would mean crime would pay.
"Alonso has to win a lot of races but there are still six to go and, with 25 points for a win, he could do that. He’s a class act.
"There's no doubt he could be world champion. Would he be a justified world champion if he won it by a couple of points? You’d have to say he wouldn’t."
Alonso trails championship leader Hamilton by 41 points going into this weekend's race at Monza, and Jordan admits they will be feeling the strain of having to perform on home soil.
He added: "Ferrari will be under severe pressure at Monza. There will be fireworks. The FIA ruling was massive for Ferrari and if they want to capitalise on it they need to do it in this race.
"They need to leave Europe with a real possibility of winning the championship.
"They will be slaughtered on Monday [by the Italian media] if they don’t perform."
