Sebastian Vettel claimed his fifth win of the Formula One season in a dramatic Monaco Grand Prix to pull even further clear at the top of the Driver’s Championship.
Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso finished the race in second position ahead of Jenson Button in third, who at one point led the race.
For a time it looked like Vettel might have been caught in what was looking like a thrilling end to the race but this was curtailed when Vitaly Petrov and several other cars came together in the Swimming Pool section of the circuit six laps from the end.
The race was briefly suspended allowing the German driver to change his rapidly deteriorating tyres and ultimately seal the win to take him 58 points clear of McLarens’ Lewis Hamilton in the standings.
