The FA Cup shocks continued as Oldham battered Liverpool to win 3-2 at Boundary Park.
The Latics opened the scoring within two minutes of kick-off through Matt Smith’s header, much to the surprise of Brendan Rodgers and his team who took a while to get into the game.
The Premier League team looked to have the upper hand of experience and class as they levelled just 15 minutes later through top scorer Luis Suarez, after a Brad Jones free-kick.
The visiting crowd clearly expected this to be the time when the top flight team showed their class but they were unable to create any complete chances from their majority possession.
And the shocks continued when The Latics took the lead on the stroke of half-time through Smith, after a cross from Lee Croft.
But just two minutes into the second half, the home side were further in the lead as Reece Wabara scored a goal deserved after all his hard work.
The Reds looked devoid of ideas and even the introduction of Steven Gerrard couldn’t lift the side. While Joe Allen gave them hope wth a deflected volley in the 78th minute, but it was much a case of too little too late.
