Eden Hazard was the hero for Chelsea as he came off the bench to score a late goal in their 1-1 draw with Sparta Prague and give them a 2-1 win on aggregate in the Europa League.
The European champions had gone into the game with a 1-0 lead but the score overall was quickly level as David Lafata fired home from Vaclav Kadlec’s pull back after 17 minutes.
Moments after the restart Ramires fired a strike against the woodwork and then Fernando Torres was denied after racing through one-on-one with Tomas Vaclik, and the misfiring striker then later blocked a shot from his Brazilian team-mate.
As the game went on Rafa Benitez started to ring the changes as he attempted to win the game in normal time, but his decision to take off Oscar and bring on Eden Hazard was greeted with boos from the home support.
The Belgian, though, went close with a header and then, moments before the final whistle, fired home a fine left-footed shot to give Chelsea a draw on the night and a win on aggregate to send them into the next round where they will face Steaua Bucharest.
