Chelsea will meet Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup after they beat Middlesbrough 2-0 in the fifth round at the Riverside Stadium.
Goals from Ramires and Victor Moses eventually saw the Blues past their tricky Championship opponents in the north east on a chilly night.
In the first half, Fernando Torres had Rafa Benitez’s side clearest chance while for Boro Mustapha Carayol brought the best out of Petr Cech and the ever-alert John Terry cleared the rebound.
But the Blues finally broke the deadlock six minutes into the second half when, following good work from Nathan Ake, Ramires’ excellent drive deflected off Torres and hit the back of Jason Steele’s net.
Eden Hazard came off the substitutes bench just before the hour-mark and he made a real impact as his direct running troubled the Boro backline.
And the brilliant Belgian provided the assist for Chelsea’s second as he squared for Victor Moses to tap home a simple effort after 73 minutes.
From then on it was all about easing to victory, although Merouane Zemmama and Ishmael Miller went close, and now Rafa Benitez will face Sir Alex Ferguson in the sixth round of the cup.
