Manchester City 5–0 Barnsley: Tevez grabs hat-trick in easy FA Cup quarter-final win

Carlos Tevez scored a hat-trick as Manchester City eased into the FA Cup semi-finals with a 5–0 home victory over Barnsley.

The pattern of the game was largely predictable as the Premier League side dominated possession and territory and took the lead on 10 minutes.

David Silva flicked his effort onto the post and Carlos Tevez followed up and tapped in from close range.

City doubled the lead on half an hour when Tevez crossed and Aleksandar Kolorav slid in and steered his strike past the keeper. After a fine passing move Tevez turned sharply in the box to score his second.

In the second half the one-way traffic continued as Tevez grabbed his third of the game. Silva’s smart finish completed the scoring as City scored their fifth.

James Milner’s powerful strike almost made it six but his effort crashed the post. Barnsley mustered very little to trouble City and the Tykes will now be able to concentrate on getting off the bottom of the Championship table.

But for City they will believe the FA Cup presents their best chance of silverware this season although they have not given up hope of retaining their Premier League title.
