Liverpool are through to the Carling Cup final after drawing 2-2 with Man City at Anfield, winning 3-2 on aggregate.
The match certainly didn’t disappoint as both teams went out on the attack straight away and Joe Hart, who was in inspired form throughout the tie, denied Jose Enrique with his legs as Kenny Dalglish’s side started the brighter of the two teams.
But despite their early pressure Manchester City took drew themselves level on aggregate after 31 minutes when Nigel De Jong, whilst falling over, managed to fire a fine curling effort beyond the outstretched arm of Pepe Reina.
Liverpool, though, hit back just nine minutes later as Steven Gerrard smashed the ball home from the spot after Micah Richards handled the ball in the area.
The change paid off after 67 minutes when the Bosnian frontman tapped the ball home at the back post from a precise Aleksandar Kolarov cross.
Man City though were unable to find another way back into the game as the Reds’ defence held firm against the attacking force of Roberto Mancini’s side.
Liverpool will now face Cardiff City in the Carling Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, February 26.
