Bolton and England defender Gary Cahill has praised the performances of former team-mate Ashley Young in the Three Lions' recent games and believes the winger deserves a permanent place in the starting line-up.
Cahill and Young were together at Aston Villa for a year in 2007 before the centre-back moved to Bolton in search of first team football.
Both were selected for the national side's two games against Wales and Ghana recently, and 25-year-old Cahill has hailed the pacey forward's displays in both games.
"He's got great ability and is a threat - he looks at home at this level," said the former Villa man.
"He gets into pockets of space and his awareness is outstanding. I thought he was brilliant against Wales and he had another great game [against Ghana]."
"There's a lot of competition for my position but I'm going to be patient and just take my chance when I get it," he added.
