Glenn Hoddle has told talkSPORT he is “available” to make a sensational return as England boss – but admits he has little chance of getting the job.

Hoddle was axed as Three Lions manager in 1999 after controversial comments he made in a newspaper interview but would not rule out taking charge for a second time.

“I would be available - but I don’t think there is any chance of that. I can see them going in-house for a short period of time,” he said, speaking to Keys & Gray.

I would be available - but I don’t think there is any chance of that— Glenn Hoddle

“I was very frustrated [to lose the England job]. There are not many people who have experienced that job and are young enough to say you could actually go and do it again. At the end of the day my record on the football front stands up - a win percentage there of 61 per cent.

“I was very proud in what we did, getting to the World Cup and playing in a very positive way, I felt as if it was cut short. If it had been because of disastrous results I would have been the first as an Englishman to put my hands up and resign but it wasn’t like that."

Harry Redknapp is the overwhelming favourite to succeed Fabio Capello but Hoddle has warned the FA it won’t be easy to tempt the 64-year-old away from Tottenham.

“He is doing such a great job at Tottenham and I think Daniel Levy and the board will fight to try and keep him and every Spurs fan will want that," he added.

"If you are an Englishman and get offered the job it is very, very difficult to turn down and I don’t think Harry will find it easy to turn down. Although, he is a similar position than I was when I was building something at Chelsea. He is building something at Tottenham and at Chelsea I was very happy and then the England job came along. You don’t get another chance sometimes.

"It is not going to be an easy decision for Harry and Spurs have stood by him, particularly this week, and gave him a job three years ago when this court case was hanging over his head. They have shown Harry a lot of loyalty and I am sure he will take that into consideration. But it is such a difficult job to turn down, particularly when you are English."
