Alan Pardew has revealed he has got a good feeling about his side’s chances of glory in the Europa League.
The Magpies picked up a last-gasp 1-0 win over Anzhi Makhachkala, thanks to Papiss Cisse’s header, as they progress to the quarter-finals of the competition.
And after knocking out the Russians, who Pardew believes were one of the best teams in the tournament, the English boss reckons his men could go all the way with a bit of fortune.
He said: “I just feel there is something in this team that’s got a good vibe about it and you need a bit of luck in cup competitions and we certainly needed a bit of luck [against Anzhi].
“I didn’t think we were going to win it in the 90 minutes but Papiss got the winner and we’re through.
“We’ve put out one of the best teams in the competition there. We’ve had to play real quality over two legs.”
And Pardew has revealed he wants to avoid facing Premier League rivals Tottenham and Chelsea in the next round of the Europa League.
“I really don’t wish that on the team,” he said. “We like the European adventure. It’s been good for us. We’ve liked the travelling abroad and our fans would probably appreciate somebody different.”
