Man City 4-0 Porto: Mancini's men cruise through against holders

Manchester City have booked their place in the last 16 of the Europa League with a comfortable 4-0 victory against Porto.

The headlines have been dominated by Carlos Tevez’s return to the club in recent weeks so it will have come as a relief to Roberto Mancini to see his other Argentinian striker Sergio Aguero making the news for the right reasons.

Aguero was the hero last week as his last minute goal ensured City brought an important 2-1 lead back to Eastlands with them.

But there was to be no close calls in the second leg as Mancini watched his men go goal crazy to record a 6-1 aggregate score against the side that won the competition last year.

Aguero had them in front within a minute when he scored from the edge of the area after excellent work by Yaya Toure and Nigel De Jong.

The second goal didn’t come until the 75th minute when substitute Edin Dzeko fired home a through ball by Aguero.

And then the floodgates opened, first David Silva netting in the 84th minute before veteran midfielder David Pizarro rounded off the rout by grabbing his first goal for the club with a powerful low drive in the 86th minute.

The only downside to the win was Yaya Toure’s 66th minute booking, which means he will miss the first leg of City’s next game in the competition.
