Iwan Roberts has urged the Football Association of Wales to make Millwall manager Kenny Jackett their number one target to replace John Toshack.
Toshack is expected to step down this week and Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs has emerged as the favourite to take over, while John Hartson has also expressed his interest in the role.
But former Norwich forward Roberts, who won 15 caps for the Dragons before hanging up his boots in 2005, is adamant Jackett would be the best man for the job following his impressive work in the lower leagues with Swansea and now Millwall.
He told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast: “I think if it’s going to be a Welshman then [it should be] Kenny Jackett. He did a great job at Swansea and he’s working wonders at Millwall.
“It’s probably come maybe a year too soon for Ryan. He’s come out and said he would love to manage Wales, he has got all his qualifications and he’s learnt from the best, so he will have something to offer, but I think a little bit further down the line.”
