Graham Westley has been appointed the new manager of Preston.
Westley has left Stevenage to take over at Deepdale after Preston thrashed out a compensation package with their League One rivals.
The 43-year-old joined Stevenage for a second spell as manager in 2008 and led the club to successive promotions from the Conference and League Two.
Stevenage have impressed in League One this season and currently sit seventh, having lost just one of their last 13 league games.
But Westley has been tempted by the challenge of trying to lead Preston back into the Championship and has taken assistants John Dreyer and Dino Maamria with him to the Lancashire club.
"We would like to thank Graham for all he has done for the football club," Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace said. "In the time that he has been with the club we have developed into a successful Football League outfit with two promotions and exciting cup triumphs under his management."
Mark Roberts has been appointed temporary player-manager of Stevenage, as the club begin the search for a new boss.
