Exclusive - Freedman: 'Iversen will be great for Palace's kids'

Dougie Freedman has welcomed the arrival of former Tottenham star Steffen Iversen to Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace's stand-in manager is looking to the Norwegian striker to add some much needed nous to his young line-up as they look to pull away from the Championship's drop zone.

The former Spurs ace made an immediate impact for his new club when he scored the winning goal on his debut against Preston, and Freedman is delighted to have him on board.

He told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast: "We were desperate for the transfer window to open to bring in some expereinced players to help the youngsters.

"We've brought Iversen in and there’s no doubt he will do that.

"This club has been known for producing young players, but we’ve had possibly too many young inexperienced players in the team.

"That bodes well for the future, but we’ve lost a number of games to late goals and maybe that inexperience has not helped us."

Freedman remains confident Palace can put together a run of results to get themselves out of trouble, but admits he's not had the chance to think about his own future since being asked to take control following the sacking of George Burley.

"It's all happened so fast after George left that I've not had time to think about my plan," he added. "I will sit down with the guys and see what they want to do.

"But whatever is best for the club will sit OK with me."
