QPR coach Marc Bircham has told talkSPORT that the club are disappointed with the length of Joey Barton’s ban for violent conduct.
The temperamental midfielder has been handed a 12-game ban by the FA after he was found guilty of two charges of violent conduct during his side’s clash with Manchester City.
Barton, 29, received a four-game ban after being red carded during the clash on the last day of the Premier League season for elbowing Carlos Tevez.
And he has now been handed an extra eight following a rampage after the dismissal which saw him kick Sergio Aguero and attempt to headbutt Vincent Kompany.
After the Football Association announced his suspension, Bircham told Drive Time: “Speaking from the football side of things, we’re just disappointed at the length of the ban, 12 games is a hell of a long time to be missing a top player who is also your captain.
“What we’re most disappointed about is we got a glimpse of how well Joey can do in the last two months of the season and now the season has ended like it did and we won’t have him for the first 12 games of the season.”
