Glenn Hoddle has expressed his surprise at Harry Redknapp’s sacking as Tottenham manager – claiming the decision cannot have been be based solely on footballing reasons.
Redknapp was axed on Thursday morning after almost four years at White Hart Lane, despite leading the club to a top-four finish last season.
Tottenham were bottom of the table when Redknapp took charge in October 2008 and Hoddle, speaking to the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show, admitted: “I’m very, I’m very surprised. I’m shocked really.
“I can’t understand - if it just for football reasons it doesn’t seem right. Harry has done a great job from when he took over to where he’s left them now.
“You wonder if there are some other reasons behind it that we will never find out about. It’s a big surprise to a lot of Spurs fans that I have been talking to and myself.
“Who goes in there is a big call now for Daniel Levy. He has to make sure he brings the right person in and I think it’s a pressure that was not needed.
"We don’t know what has gone on behind the scenes.”
