Alex Song has revealed he had trouble convincing Arsene Wenger to let him complete his 'once-in-a-lifetime' move to Barcelona in the summer.
The Cameroon international ended a seven-year stay in north London when he completed the £15m switch to the Nou Camp less than a fortnight before the transfer window shut.
Speaking to Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo, the 25-year-old admitted it was difficult to explain his choice to Wenger, the manager who plucked him from the relative obscurity of Bastia at the age of 17 and handed him his chance in England.
"It happened in July. Barca spoke with Arsenal and Arsene Wenger came to tell me,” said the midfielder.
"It was hard to convince him and say goodbye because he really helped me and my family when I arrived at Arsenal when I was 17.
"But when you want to leave, the club cannot say no. A chance like this only happens once in a lifetime and you must take it."
