Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is "exceptionally happy" to see Jack Wilshere back in action but insists the midfielder will not be rushed back into the first-team.

The 20-year-old has been out for over a year with ankle and knee injuries but he returned to the field for just over an hour in a youth-team game against West Brom on Monday.

The England international did not train with Arsenal's first-team on Tuesday morning but the news will come as a huge boost for the Gunners and Roy Hodgson's England.

He has been out for 14 months so let's be serious and not get caught up in cloudy media expectations— Arsene Wenger

"We are pleased about Jack but we have to take our time to get him slowly back," Wenger said.

"We are very happy and we must be exceptionally happy but he has been out for 14 months so let's be serious and not get caught up in cloudy media expectations."
