The South African left Goodison Park for White Hart Lane in January 2011 but after dismal spell in London, hampered by injury, he returned to Merseyside in the summer.
And, after an excellent start to the season, Pienaar's coach at the Toffees believes the slight and skilful star has found the perfect place to ply his trade in the Premier League.
He told Kick Off: “Even when Steven was at Tottenham and he wasn’t playing he still kept in touch and was in contact with the players at Everton.
“Sometimes in football, as a player, you can find a home and probably Steven will feel as if he’s played his best at Everton.
“I did it myself. I left for a short space of time. When you do go you think. ‘Well, I’ve probably made the wrong decision’ and I think Steven now, when he looks back, will probably say the same thing himself.
“He made the wrong decision when he left, but it happens. It’s over and we’re just so happy that he’s back with Everton because he’s a fantastic player for us.”
