Exclusive – McDermott relieved as Reading get their first win

Reading manager Brian Mcdermott has admitted that getting the club’s first win of the season was a huge weight off his shoulders.

The Royals have been playing well on their return to the Premier League but were unable to convert performances in to three points.

They managed to change that with a 2-1 victory over Everton at the Madejski Stadium, and McDermott believes the triumph was deserved.

He told talkSPORT: “It was a relief, obviously, we hadn’t won but that’s been coming for quite some time now. The performances have merited that win and it’s come today. I’m delighted for the players. They deserved that.

“It was important for the confidence of the players and it’s important for the supporters that we got that result. I thought the fans were fantastic.”
