Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy gave his best performance in a Canneries shirt to help his team on their way to a monumental win over Manchester United at Carrow Road, which denied the visitors the chance of reclaiming the league top spot.
Anthony Pilkington, who was a member of United’s youth team, sealed the win with a headed goal on the hour-mark, with United unable to find their way past the rugged home defense and the unstoppable Ruddy.
Javier Garrido provided the perfect cross from the left-wing which was brilliantly met by Pilkington with a cracking headed effort which flew over the flapping Anders Lindegaard and into the top corner of the net.
It was a superb response from the home side as United were flat and devoid of any imagination upfront and were unable to break down the Canneries’ rugged defense.
When they did find their way through, it was Ruddy who came to the home side’s rescue, and his countless saves would certainly give Roy Hodgson some food for thought with his England selection.
United were caught on the break a number of times throughout the match, with Norwich’s best chance to double their lead falling to Jonny Howson who was put through one-on-one with Lindegaard, but he slid his shot hopelessly wide.
United continued their relentless attacking moves until the final moments, but the home-team defense, and Ruddy, remained steadfast to secure a well-received three points.
