Dietmar Hamann has hailed Rafael Benitez as a 'top-class manager' and backed him to succeed Roberto Di Matteo at Chelsea.
Hamann won the Champions League under Benitez during his time at Liverpool and he believes the Spaniard will be a big success at Chelsea should he be tasked with leading the European champions.
“Chelsea will be getting a top-class manager with a fantastic track record,” Hamann told talkSPORT.
“If you look what he’s done in Spain, he’s the last person to win La Liga, apart from Barcelona and Real Madrid, and he won the Uefa Cup there.
“There was success at Liverpool - only the Premier League title eluded him. They will get a top-class manager if he joins them.
“If you look at his record, automatically he will have the respect of his players for what he’s done in the past. So, I don’t see any issues there.
“Yes, it is a powerful dressing room but maybe not as powerful as it was with Didier Drobga and Nicolas Anelka leaving.
“But he’s got the capabilities. He’s worked with the best players in the world over the last 10-12 years and I don’t see any issues whatsoever.
“I think Chelsea’s downfall in recent years has been the players have had too much power there. That is why they have gone through so many managers.
“I think they need somebody with a strong hand. Rafa has that and, from that point of view, I think they could be a very good match."
