Swansea and Liverpool played out a drab 0-0 draw at the Liberty Stadium as Brendan Rodgers failed to get a win on his return to Wales.
Early on for the hosts Pablo Hernandez was in scintillating form as he weaved through the Reds’ midfield and twice had Pepe Reina scampering along his goalline with curling efforts which just evaded their target, while the rampaging Glen Johnson forced Gerhard Tremmel in to a good save at the other end.
Raheem Sterling left the crossbar trembling when his thunderous, curling volley crashed in to it just after the half-hour mark.
And Liverpool thought they had snatched the lead moments later as Jose Enrique, deployed on the wing, slotted home Luis Suarez’s cross, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
The game petered out during the second period as both sides attempted to pass their way to victory, but they appeared to cancel each other out.
And in the end it remained 0-0 as Suarez, who already has ten goals to his name this season, squandered a late opportunity to win the game.
