Sam Allardyce to give Andy Carroll every chance to be fit for West Ham's derby clash with Chelsea

Andy Carroll in action for West Ham

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce will give on-loan striker Andy Carroll every possible chance to prove his fitness ahead of Saturday's London derby against Chelsea.

Carroll, who finally opened his Hammers account against Tottenham last weekend, was withdrawn in the second half of his side's 1-0 defeat at Manchester United in midweek after sustaining a knee injury.

Allardyce is desperate to include the England international in his starting line-up for Saturday's fixture and will leave it as late as possible to decide whether or not the 23-year-old will face the European champions.

When asked about Carroll's availability, Allardyce said: "We are still not sure. He will have another scan later today (Friday)."
