Exclusive – Vincent Kompany insists derby defeat not a psychological blow to Manchester City

Vincent Kompany insists Manchester United’s derby win has not given them a huge psychological advantage over Manchester City in this season’s title race.

Robin Van Persie’s last minute free-kick earned United a 3-2 victory at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday and ended City’s unbeaten home league run of 37 games.

United defender Patrice Evra has since claimed the result will be a ‘psychological blow’ to City.

But Kompany is adamant it will not have a lasting effect on his side.

“I don’t know anything about a psychological blow,” said Kompany, speaking during a visit to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

“It doesn’t change anything. It’s a game we lost and we move on to the next game.

“The beauty about football is you can always challenge, whether you lost or won the next game is always the most important and that’s Newcastle now.

“The past is the past and you have always got to go and prove yourself again. That’s going to be the case in all the derbies in the future.”
