Paulo Ferreira to leave Chelsea at the end of the season

Paulo Ferreira in action for Chelsea

Long-serving Chelsea defender Paulo Ferreira will leave the club at the end of the season.

Ferreira, who followed former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho from Porto to Stamford Bridge in 2004, is out of contract in June.

The club have no plans to extend his current deal and will allow the 33-year-old to depart west London.

The Portuguese played a key part in Chelsea's back-to-back title triumphs of 2005 and 2006 but he has been a peripheral figure in recent years - he has managed just 27 league starts since the start of the 2008/09 season.

Sources in Portugal claim the full-back will reject the opportunity to return to his homeland and explore options in the USA or Qatar instead.
