Rodgers admits he didn't expect Liverpool to lose to Aston Villa

A subdued Brendan Rodgers spoke to the press following his team’s 3-1 loss to Aston Villa at Anfield and admitted he didn’t see a result like that coming.

The Northern Irishman said: “We’re very disappointed and I’ve got to be honest I didn’t see that coming. Our confidence was very high coming into the game.

“We weren’t quite at it tonight; our intensity or our pressure in the game. The lads are very disappointed as that wasn’t really us out there.”

The Reds were 3-0 down within 50 minutes, before Steven Gerrard scored a consolation three minutes from time.

Rodgers added: “I thought we were flat. It was important for us to get the first goal. We probably needed that to open up the game a little bit. Couple that with sloppy play and we contrived to concede bad goals.”
