Frank Sinclair claims it’s ‘vital’ Chelsea win the Capital One Cup – because it will spur the team on in the Premier League title race.
The Blues produced a remarkable second half performance against Leeds United on Wednesday night, scoring five goals after the break to come from behind to beat Neil Warnock’s side 5-1 in their league cup quarter-final.
Rafa Benitez’s side will now play Swansea City in the semi-finals and former Stamford Bridge defender Sinclair believes that, should they beat the Swans, victory in the final of the competition could be the inspiration the club needs to get back into the title race.
“There’s nothing better than winning a trophy with four months of the season left to go,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show.
“It gives you that confidence to kick on towards the end of the season. It’s vital that we do win the Capital One Cup, especially after we didn’t win the Club World Cup.
“It’s going to be tough getting back into the title race. Manchester United look like they’re flying and history means they finish the season strong. Man United have a lot of points to lose but there’s a long way to go.”
