Paul Lambert insists Aston Villa will not cash in on Christian Benteke

Christian Benteke celebrates scoring for Aston Villa against Liverpool

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert insists in-form striker Christian Benteke will not be leaving the club any time soon.

Benteke has been a big hit in the Premier League after his £8million move from Genk in the summer.

An outstanding display against Liverpool last weekend has led to whispers he could be a target for a number of Villa's Premier League rivals.

But Lambert has ruled out making a quick profit on the powerful Belgium international.

"There's no point in us even being here if it's a case of bringing people in and then letting them go," said the Scot.

"What's the point in that? We're trying to build something here which can take a few years and you need good players with you to achieve that.

"There's no point in them coming for half a season or a year and then we let them go. That's not the right way."
